About us

Emerald Bay Resort is located in the valley of Chokocho village, Pemba Island, Tanzania. It faces a characteristic natural port and is thought to live these precious moments in a remote area surrounded by nature.

It is a jump in the past through panoramic hills, rain forests and ancients historical sites.

The resort, built with Arabic influence reminding the days gone by when traders and sailors were living in the island, consists of 7 spacious self contained rooms with private verandah with sea view. The lounge bar is the main public area and the terrace has a stunning view of the Emerald Bay, from which the resort takes name. Emerald Bay is the perfect getaway for couples, honeymooners and seasoned travelers that want to enjoy the island and its nature in tranquility and peace.

Next to business, Emerald Bay participates actively in the development of the local communities in Pemba. We are supporting the contruction of Chokocho Secondary School's new wing. Aside, we're working to build a first care dispensary where voluntary doctor's missions will be arranged periodically.

Amazing resort in one of the best place in the world

I have been staying in this resort along with friends for 5 days after doing Safari in the northern parks. We decided to come to Pemba to avoid the massive tourism of Zanzibar and our choice went far beyond our expectations. This resort is located right in the south of the island and I think is the only one in that area. The rooms are really big, the private bathroom well equipped and the bed very comfortable. The resort also offers a really nice swimming pool and, most important, a restaurant located right on the terrace of the resort with an amzing view on the nature and the sea. With regard to the restaurant, a strongest point is the presence of a very skilled chef which is able to prepare dishes of extremely high quality. The quality of the food is actually higher than most of the place you can find in Europe. Luca, one of the manager of the place, has been really helpful with us and he has organized really nice excursions which made our holiday unforgettable. One of the best quality of this place is that it offers everyday the transport (emerald bay resort has his own boat) to sandbanks that are really breathtaking. Tanzania is really influenced by tides so everyday you have different places where you can go.

Definitely, Pemba is one of the less impacted place in the world and it is highly recommended. Emerald bay resort will contribute to make your stay unforgettable.

AMAZING

First, the hotel is really in a remote area. There is not a beautiful beach accessible by foot.
Nonetheless: the hotel will organize (free of charge) trip on sandbanks. The swimming pool is big and clean. The water is warm at the end of the day.
Regarding the food: we had a full pension. The breakfast was made of fruits, then arrive the bread and different kind of pastry, and finally the egg. All served with a fresh fruit juice and an amazing spiced tea. Their speciality is seafood and fish. And trust me, you will be happy if you like this kind of food.
The team was really nice and helpful.
I highly recommend this hotel.
Wifi worked properly during our stay.

A piece of paradise

Although the area of the resort is not that big, the place is simply qmazing, it makes you fell like lost in paradise. The houses, the style they are organised, everything built in massive wood, spacious rooms with big bathroom, and the huge bed, were just the begining. The view, when exiting the room is just perfect, with the blue pool in front. Climbing to the restaurant brings you to the top of the main building, seeing the emerald bay, and offering a wide view to the whole area. The perfect feeling is to see the full moon from the pool at night. There is no noise, just the sound of the tropical paradise.
But, the most impresive for me, was the attitude, and the treatment offered by the staff: Ahmed picking us up from the port, Mohamed always taking care of your problems, even before mentioning them, and Nasib, who gave us a very special boat trip, to Hoata savage island, and to the closest reef for a good snorkeling.
Big thanks to Mohamed for his unforgetable attitude, and for making us feel so welcomed and spoiled!
We will be back someday!

Hidden Gem

I visited on a long weekend - Great getaway from Dar with cheap flight rates using Auric Air and Coastal Aviation. The Resort is located in the south of Pemba in front of Panza Island and reachable with a lovely drive from the airport passing through villages blocked in time. Absolutely great sleep, silence and comfortable matresses. Food is fresh and very well done - try the octopus and the dorado fish. Highlight is the daily excursion to one of the sand banks in the Bay with local people setting up a tent to cover from the sun, food, drinks and all needed to make you feel comfortable while enjoying the beautiful colours of the water and the peaceful surrounding and views. The excursion is included in the price of the accomodation. Nice swimming pool. I enjoyed also the Spice Tour, the Flying Foxes visit and Chake market and spices shop arranged by the Management which i paid separately. Will definitely be back - it is a little paradise where to spend possibly even more time to relax. Thank you !
